「日本に初めて来た文化や考え方も違う外国人の視点」から見たJリーグ、スタジアム、そしてサポーターの姿を紹介します。こういう視点でJリーグを観てみるのもおもしろいかもしれない。中にいれば気づかないこともあるし、客観的でないと、そして日本のことを全く知らない外国人でないと気づかないこともあります。ショートレポートですが、何かの示唆になれば嬉しいです。

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Tokyo the sky was blue and not a single cloud showed itself, temperatures were reaching 20°C. Perfect conditions for my 4th and final match during my first visit to Japan. I will come back to Japan, I promise. I need to buy more Pocari Sweat next time, best drink in the world.
Speaking of the stadium, the Ajinmoto Stadium is a real nice ground no doubt about that I liked it at first sight. But you should be given a pair of binoculars. I believe that even in the football + track and field combined stadiums in Europe I have never been this far away from the pitch.
The press & media officer told me that I picked a perfect match for my first visit to Tokyo Verdy because with both teams having green as their main color the match against Yamaga was kind of a derby if understood him correctly. Of course a derby looks different where I come from. And that is the first major difference between European and Japanese football atmosphere. Even though Japanese supporters are very passionate there is only very little emotion to see on and offside the pitch. No people shouting at the players, no beer showers, no insulting the opponent players opponent fans or whoever. I know that this is part of Japanese culture to not be very emotional in public but for me this was a very strange experience. Also in Japan football matches are very calm, only a few Marshals and close to no Police anywhere near or inside the stadium, that would be absolutely impossible at home in Germany. If there is a derby in your hometown you will notice because the entire city will be full of police.
The away fan sector was already very crowded when I got to my seat. That was a very impressive sight, lots of flags and waving scarfs. I was told before that Yamaga will have a good crowd considering the fact that this is an away game, but I didn`t expect it to be this big. The Tokyo Verdy fans have been standing right next to me and they were maybe a third as much as the away crowd and not closely as loud even though the home and away sectors have been quite some distance apart.
Regarding the support both sides had the Argentina style chants, rhythm and melodies that I already got used to hearing all around Japanese football stadiums during the past few days. Being the drummer in the support sector at home myself I honestly really enjoyed the rhythms and melodies. Japanese supporters have a very good sense of rhythm and for keeping the pace of the drums. I already noticed that during the other matches I attended in Japan. It would be very hard to implement such rhythms in a football stadium in Germany because many people don`t get the timing right and will mess up the chants.
However, the chants and music being as good as they were, there was hardly anything left to experience in terms of football atmosphere. No flags or other materials during the game, only rarely or if a team scored a goal for maybe 20 seconds. I know that it`s part of the rules because they block the vision but hey it`s a football match and you go into the supporters area, what do you expect? If you go swimming you will get wet, if you know what I mean. It shouldn`t be a big deal. In addition after 25 minutes you heard every song at least twice so there isn`t much variety.
The match started very good for Yamaga, scoring the 0-1 already after 2 minutes but after that there was nothing much more happening. If you are used to European top league football like Bundesliga, Premier League etc. and are an amateur football player like me it can be challenging to watch Japanese football. I don`t want to complain but a few times I was really close to jumping up my seat and just shout at the player “for fucks sake mate, what are you waiting for? Just play the god damn pass” but you see this is maybe the cultural difference I was talking about. Japanese football is also very fair, I hardly saw any fouls during the match and the players themselves play very un-physically, no tackles, no pushing that is also a big difference to German (or European) football. Don`t get me wrong, I don`want to see the players play rugby and leave the field with cuts and bruises all over. But using your body and physical contact is part of the game and allowed to some extend so you should do it.
The match ended with a 2-1 victory for Tokyo Verdy with the Verdy forward scoring a nice goal with a bicycle kick, overhead kick, scissor kick whatever it is called. I most certainly didn`t expect to see something like this, thank you.
After all I had a great time and enjoyed the match day.

気温は20度ほど、快晴の東京。初めて訪れた日本での4試合目の観戦はこれ以上ない絶好のコンディションだ。また日本に来るだろう、約束する。俺はもっとポカリスエットが買う必要がある。ポカリスエットは世界で1番おいしい飲み物だ。
ここ味の素スタジアムは当然初めて来たが、本当に、本当に素晴らしいグラウンドだ。でも、すごく残念なのが、双眼鏡が必要なくらい、ピッチとスタンドが離れている。ヨーロッパでも同じような陸上競技場はあるが、さすがにここまで離れていない。
クラブ関係者は、「東京ヴェルディを初めて観るのには、ベストな試合を選んだ」と教えてくれた。
「東京ヴェルディ、松本山雅両チームともに緑をメインカラーとしているので、「ダービーマッチ」となるから。」と説明してくれた。もちろん、ダービーの定義は、それぞれだけど、この試合をダービーと呼ぶのは、ヨーロッパと日本のフットボールの雰囲気、考え方の大きな違いだと思った。
日本のサポーターは情熱的ではあるが、ピッチ内とピッチの外（スタンドなど）に対する感情的な部分ははほとんど見受けられなかった。また、選手たちに対して何かを叫ぶ人はいない。ビールシャワー（ビールが飛んできたり、その他モノが飛んできたり）というのもなく、相手プレイヤーや相手のファンに対する侮辱といった行為を目の当たりにすることはなかった。「モノが飛んできたりしない」、「相手選手や相手ファンに対する侮辱的な行為」がないというのは日本の文化的な背景が影響していることを知っていますが、実際に体験してみると、自分にとってはこれはある意味非常に奇妙な経験だった。もう一つ印象的になのは、日本のフットボールは非常に落ち着いている。スタジアムの近くやスタジアム内には警察はいない。このような光景はドイツで見ることは不可能だ。もし、ダービーマッチ等の場合は、ドイツではスタジアムをはじめ街全体に警察の姿があふれかえっているからね。
自分の席に着いた時には、松本サポーターエリアはすでに混雑していて、それが非常に印象的だった。松本サポーター席はたくさんの旗やマフラーが揺れている。松本にとってはアウェイゲームであり、正直言うと、ここまで松本サポーターが多いとは思わなかった。それもまた非常に印象的な光景だった。対して、ホーム東京ヴェルディのサポーターは松本サポーターの3分の1くらい。
両チームのサポーターは、アルゼンチン風の歌、リズム、曲調のチャントを歌っていた。それを観ていると、イェーナでドラムを叩いている自分にとって、刺激的で非常に楽しい時間だった。日本ではトータル4試合観てきたが、日本のサポーターはチャントのリズムや音程、ペースをしっかりと保って歌うことができる。
しかし、ドイツで同じようなことをやろうとすると難しいかな。ドイツでは、多くの人がタイミングやリズムをとることなく歌ってしまい、チャントが台無しになってしまう。
しかしながら、チャントは素晴らしいが、フットボールの雰囲気という面では少し物足りない感じがした。例えば、試合中に旗を振るサポーターは少なく、特になにかアクションがあるわけではない。ゴールが決まって20秒くらいは旗が振られるが、それ以外では旗を振るシーンがほとんどない。旗に関しては「旗で見えない」という声に配慮したルールがあるのかもしれないが、それでは少し寂しい感じがする。サポーターエリアにいるのだから、旗で見えないのは当然だろう？サポーター席にいるのに、サポート以外の何を期待しているんだ？
例えば、もし、スイミングに行けば濡れるだろう。それはごく自然で当たり前のこと。それと同じくらい、サポーターエリアで旗が振られているのはごく自然で当たり前のことだ。
試合展開は松本にとって非常に良いスタートをした。しかし、それ以降は何も起こらなかった。ブンデスリーガ、プレミアリーグなどの欧州のトップリーグサッカーに慣れていると、日本のフットボールを観るのはちょっと難しいかもないな。俺は文句を言うつもりはないけど、試合中に数回は座席を飛び出してプレイヤーに文句を言いたくなるシーンもあった。
しかし、誰一人としてそういうファンはいなかった。これは多分文化的な違いがあるのだろうな。
また、日本のフットボールは非常にフェアで、試合中のファウルはほとんど見られなかった。ハードタックルは少ないが、ドイツ（またはヨーロッパ）のフットボールとは大きな差はないと思う。激しいタックルでケガをするシーンをみたいわけではないが、フィジカルコンタクトはフットボールの一つだと考えれば、日本はもっとフィジカルコンタクトがあってもいいのではないかと感じた。
試合は東京ヴェルディが2-1で勝利。バイシクルシュートやオーバーヘッドシュートがあって素晴らしいゴールシーンだった。正直に言うと、ここまで期待をしていなかったけど、すごく楽しい時間を過ごした。

日本が良い、海外が良いという比較は思考停止もいいところ。世界中どこに行っても良いところ、悪いところがある。それを取捨選択して、その国や地域の文化や考え方と融合させて、良いものを作ればいい。こういった文化や考えのギャップ、そして客観的な視点から色々と考えたり、なぜ同じフットボールでもこんなに違った見方が生まれるのか、そのバックグラウンドは何なのかを探ったり、考えたりすることが楽しくなってきた。
